Opening the gates of learning!

Williamsburg Forest School offers an authentic, experiential education to children in Kindergarten – 6th grade. With nature and art at our center, we prioritize rigor and creativity as learners build and master skills in math, science, literacy and writing, social studies, and environmental stewardship. We emphasize scientific and innovative thinking, as well as practical life applications. And we save the space for individual interests and abilities alongside learning explorations that offer children real-world problem-solving and a deeper understanding of - and use for - their education.

A hands-on education – outside and in
We build a unique relationship to nature through our outdoor classrooms. We learn in, through, and about nature, making connections between the sciences and humanities and tying practical work of the hand to 21st century knowledge.

Our indoor classrooms enable us to cultivate academic foundations through activities more suited to a brick and mortar environment.

Destination: Nature!
Our outdoor classroom - our land lab - sits on 33 acres of fields and forest. It is a community that not only includes a forest, but also a farm, with horses, goats, chickens, dogs, educators, and - most importantly - children! We believe both forest and farm offer many authentic and inspiring lessons that give children the opportunity to own what they learn and innovate with it.
Our specialty is providing interdisciplinary learning with structures in math, writing and literature, art, and environmental education. But as the sky is the limit here, the farm is a wealth of practical life experiences that include work of the hand, cultivation of the intellect, and motivation from the heart.
The farm is complemented by our nearby indoor classrooms that serve as a hub for more in-depth academic work.
